1. THE TRAILHEAD
You are standing in a small gravel parking lot.
After speeding down the highway for hours, you turned onto an unpaved road and arrived here. There’s a trailhead, a sign offering advice to hikers, and not much else.
Above you, thunder bellows and lightning splits the night sky. You feel the first drops of what could turn into a downpour.
If you’re going to do what you came here to do, you’d better get moving.
