Host game night at your zoo!

Locked Zoo is a series of 2-hour puzzle-solving games that can be licensed and hosted at AZA-accredited zoos. Working in small teams, players the zoo, solve an elaborate series of puzzles, and try to finish the game before time runs out. As teams progress, they’ll also learn about different species, the role of zoos, and the importance of wildlife conservation!

Jetpack has partnered with the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo to pilot new games and offer them to other AZA-accredited zoos as revenue-generating events. Games are available to license individually, or as an ongoing series. There are currently 10 games to choose from, with a variety of conservation themes and featured species. Two new games will be available in 2024.

  • Deserts Decoded

    This edition features a series of puzzles related to life in the desert — where animals have adapted to the elements and face new hazards from human encroachment.

  • Secret Safari

    This edition challenges players with a series of puzzles related to species of the African savanna — and the dangers they face there.

  • Wild & Free

    This edition has players solve puzzles inspire by breeding and reintroduction programs — which aim to boost the population of species in the wild.

  • Living Large

    In any region, the largest animals play a vital role in their ecosystems. Puzzles in this edition relate to keystone species — and the importance of protecting them.

  • Fab Forests

    This game champions stewardship as an easy way to support and protect the animals who live in North American forests.

  • Amazing Apes

    Apes are intelligent and charismatic, but they face survival challenges in the wild. While solving puzzles, players will learn all about apes.

  • Tooth & Claw

    This edition celebrates nocturnal animals that thrive at night, with senses attuned to searching for food, finding mates, and avoiding predators in the dark.

  • Cryptic Cats

    Nature’s biggest cats use strength, speed, and smarts to survive in the wild. Players will do the same as they prowl the zoo solving cat-themed puzzles.

  • Rare Breeds

    Players will pair macaws, trade tigers, and get to know gorillas while learning about how zoos worldwide collaborate on captive breeding programs.

  • Finders Keepers

    How do zoos keep animals happy, healthy, and well-fed? Find out while solving a series of puzzles about food, positive reinforcement, and enrichments.

FAQ

  • Working with our partner zoo, the Wilder Institute / Calgary Zoo, we’ve simplified game preparation to in-office printing and the posting of signs along routes you select in your zoo. All game assets are made available for download from Google Drive, and you can attach your own customized or standard zoo map to the game sheet for players to navigate with.

  • When players arrive, you’ll give them a game sheet (a stapled set of 8.5x11” pages) and a pencil. They’ll scan a QR code to load the game website — and the rest of the game is self-guided. Instructions and hints are provided to them for each part of the game, and the final part of the game is a sit-down-anywhere portion that gives players a chance to eat, drink, and rest while they finish any remaining puzzles. When players leave the zoo, just collect the pencils and recycle the game sheets.

    You’ll also have access to event logistics and practical advice from both the game creator and a zoo professional who has hosted nearly two dozen Locked Zoo events.

  • Games can be licensed per-day (12:00am to 11:59pm in your time zone), for a one-time fee. For an additional fee, additional game materials can be customized with your zoo (or sponsor) branding and messaging. Contact us using the form below to receive detailed pricing and customization options.

  • Our motivation for supplying Locked Zoo games to AZA-accredited zoos is to help fund conservation efforts. To date, host zoos have been able to generate as much as a 6x return on the licensing fee, — on ticket sales alone — plus food and beverage sales.
